Ink + Compressed Air =

Ink, pen, watercolor on paper
12 x 9

About a year ago I came across an artist, Stephen Bucher, who used ink and compressed air cans to create monsters. He would put a few drops of ink on paper then spray it with the air and let the ink splatter and trail all over. Then he would turn the spontaneous ink into creatures. He usually went back in to rework the image with markers.

I thought it was a cool way of starting pieces so I tried it out and over the summer of 2008, made a lot of drawings (about 10 or 15) using this style (at some point I'll get around to posting a few up here). After the summer, the compressed air was retired up until a few weeks ago. I threw down some ink and sprayed away. I let it dry for about a month, mainly because I forgot I had even done it. I found the pad of paper on Sunday afternoon at the bottom of my desk drawer. After a few hours of working at it, the above is what resulted.

Amazing! Great piece. I too am a fan of Stephen Bucher's work, but to be honest I had forgotten about his technique until now.

I absolutely love the watercolor Krishna, and I'm envious because I'm not much of a painter myself.

Thanks Jason!

I actually haven't look at much of Stephen Bucher's other work, i might do that tomorrow while procrastinating at my internship!
